First Achieve's Engineering Division are hiring a Senior Buyer for their client in Yorkshire who work within manufacturing and engineering sectors providing domestic and commercial hot water cylinders.

This position involves the sourcing & purchasing of raw materials for manufacturing and distribution, managing & developing relationships with key suppliers, negotiating pricing & contracts for goods and services to meet the company's operational requirements. You will work closely with the Purchasing Department/Material Planners and report into the Procurement Manager.

Permanent Role, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with salary up to £45k.

Role

  • Sourcing of raw materials & finished goods through new & existing suppliers.
  • Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers.
  • Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate risk within the supply chain.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues.
  • Track commodity pricing, market trends & competitor strategies.
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities.
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.
  • Monitor forecasts to identify changes and to determine their effect on supply chain activities.
  • Liaising with all internal stakeholders, building and maintaining key relationships.

Requirements

  • Relevant business/commercial or manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a buying role.
  • Proven purchasing experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements.
  • Contract management and supplier experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of supply chain management & commodity markets.
  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge of vendor development from a Lean perspective & Kanban implementation desirable.
